Special Holiday Opportunities to Give with Better Housing

Perhaps you are searching for an alternative to another tie or sweater for a person who has everything.  Or perhaps the gifts you seek are more traditional but you want to help at the holidays, too.  We have options that fit with your holiday season and will help us bring more housing solutions to those that need them!

Visit Better Housing on December 1st at the Alternative Gift Fair! Organized by the CRESP Center at Cornell University, the Alternative Gift Fair provides a unique way to honor those on your gift list by purchasing donations to Better Housing or another not-for-profit in their name.  Has your gift exchange with, say, your brother devolved into handing gift cards to stores back and forth because you can't think of anything to get one another?  True to its name, the Fair offers alternatives from 30 different not-for-profits in a wide array of dollar values and causes. 

At the fair, you can help Better Housing through a donation in a loved-one's name that will directly impact a senior wanting to remain independent through our home repair program.  These gifts are also tax deductible; you will be given a receipt the day of the fair.

By online shopping through GoodShop.  Many of our supporters are familiar with Goodsearch, a search engine powered by Yahoo! that makes a donation to Better Housing or another charity every time they do a search.   Through its new program, you can now do your online gift shopping at many retailers you might visit already, such as Amazon, Lands End, Dell, eBay, and dozens of others!  The retailers donate a portion of your purchase to Better Housing when you buy your gifts.  Here's how easy it is to participate:

1.  Visit http://www.goodsearch.com/goodshop.aspx.

2.  In the box at the top, enter Better Housing for Tompkins County

3.  Use the page you are on to enter the store site you wish to shop from, and make your purchases!  Note:  if you visit a site and wait until later to go back and buy something, you will need to access the site through the goodshop page each time, so you might want to bookmark it.
